Be Sure To Hydrate Through The Holidays!
Though staying hydrated is critical to so many of our bodies’ functions, it can be quite difficult to get enough water each day. The general recommendation for adults is 64 oz. of water each day, but that number can go up if you exercise a lot and during the summer months when you’re losing more water from the heat. Though it’s presently quite chilly, it’s still important to stay hydrated, so why not make it one of your goals for the new year? You can help yourself get enough water with these easy tips, too!
Add Flavor To Your Water
If you aren’t used to drinking lots of water each day, adding flavors can be a great place to help you get into the habit. Try steeping fruit and veggies in a big water pitcher to add flavor and extract important nutrients from the water. Many people love adding raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, lemon slices, orange slices, lime slices, apple slices, and cucumbers to their water.
Go High Tech
If forgetfulness is your main roadblock to drinking more water, try using your home and personal technology devices to remind you. There are a myriad of water tracking apps you can download as well as several smart water bottles that use flashing lights and notifications to your phone to remind you to drink water. If you’re working from home, you could also use home devices like Amazon Alexa or Google Nest to set up regular reminders to drink water.
Use The Gallon Method
Another way to use visual clues to help you stay hydrated is to fill up a clean gallon-sized jug with water in the morning and work to sip through it all by the end of the day. This method is perfect for people who need more water to keep up with strenuous exercise, but it may be too much water for others. Be sure to check with your primary care provider about how much water would be suitable for you.

Get A Filter
If tap water is part of the reason you struggle to drink enough through the day, you can purchase a filtration system relatively cheaply to solve the issue of the “tap water taste”. There are many filtered pitchers and carafes, or you can even get a filter attachment for your kitchen sink so that you don’t have to worry about remembering to fill the carafe when it’s empty.
