What is Super Cruise?Super Cruise, a driving system developed by GM, is the first truly hands-free driving system compatible with North American roadways.
How does Super Cruise work?Super Cruise uses a combination of GPS, LiDAR map data, cameras, and radars to help drivers navigate on compatible roads.
Where can I use Super Cruise?As of this writing (September 2024), Super Cruise is compatible with 240,512,828 miles of roadways throughout the United States and Canada. Efforts to expand the Super Cruise compatible roadways continue, and that number is expected to grow. In the Roanoke, VA area, drivers can use Super Cruise on Route 220, I-81, and parts of Route 221.
What do I need to use Super Cruise?To use Super Cruise, you will need an active OnStar Super Cruise subscription. In addition, before you can operate Super Cruise, you will need to activate Adaptive Cruise Control. Your Forward Collision System should be set to ALERT AND BRAKE, and all Teen Driver features must be turned off.
How do I turn on Super Cruise?To use Super Cruise, first, make sure that you are on a compatible road with clearly defined lane markings. You should also check that all of your vehicle's cameras and sensors are fully operational including the Driver Attention Camera. Then follow the three steps outlined below:
- Enable Adaptive Cruise Control.
- Wait for the Super Cruise system to ensure that all necessary conditions are met. At that point, the Super Cruise symbol will turn white.
- Press the Super Cruise button on your steering wheel and wait for the light bar on your steering wheel to turn green. When it does, you can remove your hands.
Yes. The Driver Attention Monitoring system will alert you if it detects that you aren’t focused on the road. You will receive three escalating alerts to return your attention to the road, after which Super Cruise will slow your vehicle, bring it to a complete stop, and disengage.
Are there times when I shouldn’t use Super Cruise?Yes. You shouldn’t use Super Cruise when there are no clear lane markings, during adverse weather, on slippery roads, in a highway exit lane, in a tunnel, or in a construction zone.
